My learning process and how NAPCON cares about their colleagues in this specific time

About the author

Thao Ho is 23 years old and was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She came to Turku University of Applied Sciences in the Fall of 2016 and graduated with a major of Mobile and Web Application Development in June 2020. Currently, she works as a Web Development trainee at NAPCON and her main role is to be responsible for improving the user interface of NAPCON Games.

I was so excited and happy when receiving a traineeship offered by the NAPCON’s manager. I am eager for the new journey and to be a part of the new family. The culture immediately stood out for me when I first heard about NAPCON, and Neste in general. I was initially skeptical (as one should be!) that NAPCON’s culture might be too good to be true. Nonetheless, once I got here, the reality matched up to my expectations if not surpassed.

The company emphasizes the value of individuals and the collaboration to maximize the efficiency of the company’s values. On top of that, the tasks have been very interesting in terms of designing and implementing NAPCON’s Game on the Web Application platform which really fits my abilities. I am able to apply all the knowledge from my studies and previous works and to improve the performance of the given tasks. It feels to me that NAPCON is a great place for me to grow as a whole person (not just as an engineer) and to devote my energy to a positive and ambitious mission. This is the biggest reason why I decided to start my career here.

In comparison to many internships that I had completed in which interns might participate in low-risk, independent projects, NAPCON’s trainee is regarded as a full-time employee. The tasks vary from project to project, a trainee has a chance to be involved in a wide work-flow. I really love the opportunity to propose ideas and receive feedback from colleagues. Therefore, I felt that my manager and tutor care about my growth here. They would ask questions such as “Are you learning well?”, and “How are you doing?” during my one-to-one meeting with them. These questions have inspired us to have conversations more frequently. Thus, it has been easier to address my performance, and where I could improve myself as an engineer. Moreover, while taking me through tasks, my tutor encouraged me to find new methods while doing tasks that I was not familiar with. She has always inspired me to learn more about the context of the work even more than it has been strictly required. I really appreciate how she has always been willing to explain profound engineering decisions on the areas I was curious about.

From the bottom of my heart I can say that my job is my passion. It manifests, for instance, when I am making features that are more beautiful, attractive, and useful. I am grateful to be here with the many talented, and friendly people who are willing to give me more information every time I ask. By their support, I have begun to understand how NAPCON and Neste value teamwork and success.

NAPCON is like a big family, every single person in that family has a great chance to grow and improve themselves socially and intellectually.

Last but not least, I really respect their care for the safety of their employees. It is visible by very precise guidance, and by sending masks to the home of every employee. NAPCON is like a big family, every single person in that family has a great chance to grow and improve themselves socially and intellectually. Contributing my skills by working at NAPCON is an extraordinary opportunity that I have ever had.
